01. OPENING; June 2011

Hello, and welcome to [livejournal.com profile] microlight! I've got...at least seventy fics listed here to get started, split up between the following sections:

This place is still heavily under construction, though. I haven't even begun to add all the stories on my list, and sadly, a lot of what's here currently is all from the same few authors. That is partially because I simply haven't gotten to everyone yet, and partially because I only know about a few authors. ;_; If you have any fics or authors that you think I should check out, please recommend it! Also, if you'd like to affiliate, just click here.

I'd like to take a moment to highlight fics that were published fairly recently (I use that term loosely), including:

Siwon/Han Geng
  • Peak by [livejournal.com profile] catskilt: Two-shot, R. Business!AU. There were some things that they were not supposed to touch. namely, each other.
This is classy and melancholy and unhurried. It feels like something straight out of a noir film. I love the way she writes these characters. While the first chapter is stronger than the second, the second isn't half bad either.
Kyuhyun/Sungmin
  • Incarnāre, to Make Flesh by [livejournal.com profile] hambaobao: One-shot, R. Your voice your fingers your heat they will all be imprinted deep inside of me.
I love this author's writing. His descriptions are very sense-oriented, lush, and gorgeous. This fic is a little bit of everything—funny, hot, adorable, snarky.
Heechul/Han Geng
  • Raising Flags by [livejournal.com profile] black_goose: One-shot, PG-13. Side Siwon/Sungmin. Two weeks later, Heechul recieved an e-mail from an address he didn't know, and opened it to realise that at some point, Sungmin had signed him up to an online dating site.
I burst out laughing so many times while reading this. This has excellent comedic timing, the pacing is nice and unhurried, and Heechul is impeccably written. The sweet Siwon/Sungmin is just a nice added bonus.
Kyuhyun/Zhou Mi
  • The Stillness of Color by [livejournal.com profile] applesnapple412: One-shot, PG-13. AU. Kyuhyun works as a living statue.
This premise is so unique. I love how the QMi develops, because on the surface it's rather understated. Also, if you think about Kyuhyun turning into a living piece of art as an allegory for their lives as idols, it becomes rather meta and fascinating.
  • Icing on the Cake by [livejournal.com profile] evaporate: One-shot, PG? Kyuhyun/Zhou Mi. Roomate!AU. Kyuhyun is obsessed with cleanliness. Zhou mi is obsessed with baking. There are no radioactive spiders.
"So the first time Kyuhyun had thrown a stuffed animal at him, Zhou Mi baked a lopsided pink thing that he later confided was supposed to be sort of panda-shaped, 'because I'm Chinese!' After lathering it in bright pink icing, he'd whipped out a shaker of rainbow sprinkles and, with the precision, eye, and concentration of the thoroughly scorned, painstakingly arranged a sprinkly rainbow >:( face on the topside of the cake."
  • Roller Coaster by [livejournal.com profile] kayevelyn: One-shot, PG-13. Zhou Mi has a hard time putting definitions to emotions, and emotions to situations. But he tries.
This fic is so intense. It's another fic that deals with how people might react to homosexuality (I feel like I will rec any and all fics like this that I come across). Reading it is a struggle the whole way through, but in such a good way. You're in suspense, the whole time, wondering if it'll really work out.
  • Pretty Little Time Bomb by [livejournal.com profile] chiaroscuro18: Two-shot, PG. Side Kyuhyun+Ryeowook. Kyuhyun finds love in strange places.
The beauty of this fic lies in the strength of its research and in the tiny, vivid details. Everything that is important in this fic is also very small, and builds up gradually, like snowflakes. Kyuhyun is beautifully written. This is also my favorite Ryeowook characterization to date, because it takes his fandom stereotype and makes it unique, turns it into a great source of strength. Careful, though: this one'll jerk your heart around quite a bit before the story's done.
  • Give up Forever to Keep you by [livejournal.com profile] meiface: One-shot, R. Taiwan gives Zhou Mi a freedom he didn't have before. Taiwan changes the way Kyuhyun looks at him.
I have a thing for fics that address homosexuality in real ways. This fic does that, spectacularly. I love Zhou Mi's complicated characterization and Henry's, too. This fic really makes you empathize with everyone involved, so it's a bit of an emotional rollercoaster.
  • And all the Lights That Lead us There are Blinding by [livejournal.com profile] aronnax: One-shot, NC-17. Zhou Mi is in a crisis of unrequited love. Kyuhyun plays Patapon.
Everything, absolutely everything this author writes is worth reading, but I can't get this fic in particular out of my head. It tells a whole story through sex. I've never seen a fic do that before. Zhou Mi's characterization here is different from any I've read before in the fandom, and (imo) the one that's probably closest to how he is irl. It's gorgeous and painful and fantastically written.
  • Decade and One by [livejournal.com profile] playmehome: One-shot, PG. Kyuhyun and Zhou Mi build a life together within the walls of a house with yellow shutters.
There are two things that make this fic stand out. First, it's not get-together fic, it's "everything that comes after" fic. She wastes no time telling you how the relationship came to be, and barely mentions anything outside of their relationship together because it's honestly not important for this fic, and I love that. Second, she instead chooses to give us a series of snapshots into their life together as decades pass. Maturing love, seeing how they grow together, domesticity and quiet emotion! There aren't enough QMi fics about that.
And three older fics:
  • You Look so Tasty I Could eat you up Alive by [livejournal.com profile] panpipe: Kyuhyun/Zhou Mi, One-shot, PG. Kyuhyun gets fat and Zhou Mi likes it.
FATKYU. FATKYU PLAYED STRAIGHT. READ IT.
  • Maneater by [livejournal.com profile] sujusarang: Kyuhyun/Zhou Mi, Multipart, PG-13. Watch out boy, he’ll chew you up.
Part 4 is here since it's not linked to. This fic is both hilarious and extremely thrilling. It takes Fatkyu and brings it to the next level because HE LITERALLY WANTS TO EAT ZHOU MI. A delightful take on slasher tropes, where Zhou Mi is the plucky dumb cheerleader and Kyuhyun is the serial killer with a heart of gold.
  • Cityverse by [livejournal.com profile] sapphynashi and [livejournal.com profile] interludesign: Kyuhyun/Sungmin + a million other pairings, Insanely long discontinued epic, PG-13. The City lies in restless slumber, in exhaustion and defeat. Its streets are scarred and winding, lonely roads that lead to nowhere, around buildings that glitter and crumble in the same instant. The City has a name, but it's not worth remembering. The City sleeps, but on some nights...it wakes up.
You may remember me saying that I don't read very many multiparts. This fic is 65,000 words long. Holy hell. So no, I haven't read all of this yet, but how do you not rec something this epic? This fic seems to involve lovely writing, vampires, and a twisty, awesome plot. Sadly, it was discontinued in 2008, so there isn't an ending, but I'm really looking forward to sitting down and reading this thing.
I'm hoping to at least put out a new update every month, although it may come sooner if I just find that much fic to rec. See you again!
