World Enough by [livejournal.com profile] taoyan: Two-shot, PG-13? AU. Kyuhyun figures a few things out about special relativity.
If there is only one fic you read out of all the ones I list on this journal, please let it be this one. This is my favorite fic ever. I can't remember how many times I've reread this. It's romantic, it's charming, it's all intensity with rounded edges, you can't read it fast enough but you never want it to end. It will tear your heart into a billion pieces and you will love every second of it.

In it for the Show, Baby. by [livejournal.com profile] grisclair: One-shot, PG-13?. In which Cho Kyuhyun and Zhou Mi are famous K-pop idols, and Kyuhyun tries to teach Zhou Mi how showbiz is all about playing the show.
This is the fic that got me into Super Junior fandom. It's gritty, hard-hitting non-AU that's bitter and beautiful and the imagery is gorgeous and it all just feels so real. (There is a sequel here, but it is so cruelly heartbreaking that I'm almost hesitant to rec it.)

Less QQ More PewPew by [livejournal.com profile] blahchiharu: One-shot, PG. Bookstore clerk Zhou Mi meets professional gamer Cho Kyuhyun, but neither of them are really who they seem to be.
I won't tell you the type of AU it is because that would spoil the surprise, but just because of that alone this is one of my favorite, favorite SuJu fics. The best description is a quote from the fic: it's about Kyuhyun and Zhou Mi's "odd, childlike friendship." This fic is so charming; it's another one I've reread several times.

Laundromat AU by [livejournal.com profile] sj_shippingco ([livejournal.com profile] remixied, [livejournal.com profile] bittersnow, [livejournal.com profile] blahnicity): Collection of one-shots, G-R, side Siwon/Sungmin and Han Geng/Heechul. Kyuhyun is maybe kinda sorta whipped.
Laundromat AU is like pure dopamine. I may or may not be addicted to it; it's better than chocolate, okay. Besides its gentle affection, humor, and lovely realist tone, [livejournal.com profile] remixied is one of the only people I know who can write snappy in-character QMi conversation as it probably happens IRL. (The other writers of this series are incredible too, but since they tend to write the other pairings and this is the QMi section, I'll keep quiet about them for now.) ad;lkjaeraer just do yourself a favor and go read it ;;

We Could've Been a Love Story by [livejournal.com profile] papered: One-shot, PG-13. war!AU. Zhou Mi is a dreamer. He builds sandcastles in the air and believes in Happily Ever Afters; falls in love with drawing and singing and a dozen other things he's yet to try.
This fic has a dreamlike or flashback-like quality to it, which is something I love in writing. It's written beautifully, and it really tugs at the heartstrings.

Revolution, Evolution by [livejournal.com profile] freakymod: One-shot, G. Kyuhyun and Zhou Mi and what happens after Super Junior.
This fic sparked my love of future!fics. This fic is so heartwarming and quiet and old QMi being adorable together forever, aaaaa. I also love the way she writes everyone, not just QMi.

Test Drive by [livejournal.com profile] warmboys: One-shot, PG. How people get together.
I think the best description of this fic is "off-beat." Like many of her fics, the strength of this one lies in all of the quirky details and irreverent, charming non-sequiturs.

Kick Me, and Other Romantic Overtures by [livejournal.com profile] evaporate: One-shot, PG-13. College AU. Sungmin plays a prank, with interesting results. Kyuhyun can't figure out whether this is a good thing or a really, really bad one.
[livejournal.com profile] evaporate is one of the masters of QMi fanfiction, and this is a good example as to why. Most of her fics turn me into a giddy mess, and this is no exception. I think it's actually impossible to be sad after reading this thing. It's quirky, it's witty, it's charming, it's IC, it's really smart in unexpected ways, it's written really well, and it uses modern technology in the cutest ways, omg.

Your Hands Over Mine by [livejournal.com profile] kang2urteuk: Drabble, G. Zhoumi must be god's way of saying "sorry you almost died".
This fic is only 48 words long. Considering how tiny it is, you won't believe the kick it has.

Inescapable by [livejournal.com profile] coyotecolored: Two-shot, R. Side Yesung/Ryeowook, Heechul/Han Geng, Sungmin/Kyuhyun.
QMi IN SPACE and they live on a spaceship singing academy and it feels like Star Trek with QMi in it and oh my God I love the premise of this fic so much. I love it so much that I don't care about its flaws. This fic is all about analyzing alien cultures and how QMi's love would work with sci-fi factors involved and Zhou Mi's character is so fascinating and aldkjf;alejr I love this fic.

Drabbles by [livejournal.com profile] dear_whimsy: One-shot, G to R. Cho Enterprises had outmaneuvered them—again! // "He's not real, is he?" Zhou Mi asked, gripping his motorcycle helmet nervously.
This is a two-for-one deal! The first is sort of like a hilariously awful porno, full of cheesy setups and terrible puns, and the second is a beautiful writing exercise that takes the stereotypes of "Zhou Mi = innocent" and "Kyuhyun = evil" and turns them on their heads.
Chances Are You'll Find Happiness by [livejournal.com profile] heartcity: One-shot, PG. Kyuhyun's fortune cookies promise happiness found on this corner.
A love story told through fortune cookies. If that premise alone doesn't hint at some of this fic's cuteness, then I don't know what will.

The Heart's Promotion by [livejournal.com profile] cascades: One-shot, R. Sometimes Zhou Mi gets so caught up striving for perfection that he forgets it's unattainable.
This is angst, although it isn't broken!QMi (as the author is quick to point out). This is really hard for me to read because she portrays relationship fighting so realistically, which is perhaps just a testament to how good a writer she is.

Unraveling with Every Word by [livejournal.com profile] meiface: One-shot, PG. AU. When Kyuhyun begins exchanging postcards with a student in China, he never expects to end up falling in love with his best friend.
Oh, this fic is so cute. [livejournal.com profile] meiface is a pillar of the Super Junior fanfic community, but I think this is my favorite fic of hers. It's similar in tone and premise to Kick Me, and Other Romantic Overtures, so if you liked that, you should definitely read this too. Her writing is lovely and funny and oh, so charming.

You Spin me Right Round by [livejournal.com profile] doumyoujitsukas: Two-shot, PG. AU. Zhou Mi is a part-time Prada employee with too many dreams. Kyuhyun is a part-time model with absolutely none. Things, inevitably, are bound to happen.
Part two is here since she doesn't have a link between the two parts. This fic has permanently changed the way I look at peanut butter sandwiches. This girl's writing makes me tear up every time, so you've been warned ;_;

The Stillness of Color by [livejournal.com profile] applesnapple412: One-shot, PG-13. AU. Kyuhyun works as a living statue.
This premise is so unique. I love how the QMi develops, because on the surface it's rather understated. Also, if you think about Kyuhyun turning into a living piece of art as an allegory for their lives as idols, it becomes rather meta and fascinating.

Forever Miles High by [livejournal.com profile] doumyoujitsukas: One-shot, NC-17. AU. It only takes Zhou Mi three countries to fall in love.
This fic (along with the other one that I linked from this author earlier) tends to get stuck in my head a lot. This fic mixes travel and romance, which are basically my two favorite things in the whole world. Also they join the mile high club omg as;dfljalerj it's awesome. This fic makes me want to go to all of these places and sigh romantically ;_;

Oh, oh I Want Some More by [livejournal.com profile] chaltyr: One-shot, PG-13. Supermodel!AU. Kyuhyun is infatuated.
I love QMi supermodel AU (this is mostly [livejournal.com profile] grisclair's fault) and this feeds that addiction perfectly. I love the descriptions of this piece; they're so vivid. It's in-your-face and shallow (in a good way) and I love Zhou Mi's last line.

And This is Why Henry Wants to go Back to Canada by [livejournal.com profile] applesnapple412: One-shot, PG-13. AU. Kyuhyun thinks that most (or actually, make that all) of his bandmates are weird in some way shape or form.
This fic is 100% crack and I could not stop giggling the whole way through.

Pretty Little Time Bomb by [livejournal.com profile] chiaroscuro18: Two-shot, PG. Side Kyuhyun+Ryeowook. Kyuhyun finds love in strange places.
The beauty of this fic lies in the strength of its research and in the tiny, vivid details. Everything that is important in this fic is also very small, and builds up gradually, like snowflakes. Kyuhyun is beautifully written. This is also my favorite Ryeowook characterization to date, because it takes his fandom stereotype and makes it unique, turns it into a great source of strength. Careful, though: this one'll jerk your heart around quite a bit before the story's done.

Every Weekend by [livejournal.com profile] misslemonbar: One-shot, PG. Every friday night, Zhou Mi would drive exactly one hundred and forty seven miles (two point five of which were a detour for a starbucks caramel mochaccino, because even though without the caffeine he would fall asleep behind the wheel and either crash into a tree or run over old ladies, black coffee made his mouth taste dry and sharp) to see Kyuhyun.
Long distance relationship adorable QMi. In England. This is so cute, runs the gamut of emotions without feeling rushed, and a;sldflejr I love that it is in England! I love English fic writers ;_;

You Look so Tasty I Could eat you up Alive by [livejournal.com profile] panpipe: One-shot, PG. Kyuhyun gets fat and Zhou Mi likes it.
FATKYU. FATKYU PLAYED STRAIGHT. READ IT.

But my Heart's no Stranger to Upheaval by [livejournal.com profile] chrysa: One-shot, PG-13. Side Henry/Sungmin. College AU. In which Kyuhyun makes poor life decisions and Zhou Mi has an emo panda shirt.
I'm pretty sure this is the weirdest, zaniest, crackiest QMi fic I've ever read. Everything comes out of nowhere and it's just this side of nonsensical and it's hilarious and Kyuhyun is so awkward and Zhou Mi is simultaneously catty and smiley? And Henry is a Canadian gangster and just ;A;

Give up Forever to Keep you by [livejournal.com profile] meiface: One-shot, R. Taiwan gives Zhou Mi a freedom he didn't have before. Taiwan changes the way Kyuhyun looks at him.
I have a thing for fics that address homosexuality in real ways. This fic does that, spectacularly. I love Zhou Mi's complicated characterization and Henry's, too. This fic really makes you empathize with everyone involved, so it's a bit of an emotional rollercoaster.

Maneater by [livejournal.com profile] sujusarang: Multipart, PG-13. AU. Watch out boy, he’ll chew you up.
Part 4 is here since it's not linked to. This fic is both hilarious and extremely thrilling. It takes Fatkyu and brings it to the next level because HE LITERALLY WANTS TO EAT ZHOU MI. A delightful take on slasher tropes, where Zhou Mi is the plucky dumb cheerleader and Kyuhyun is the serial killer with a heart of gold.

Strength by [livejournal.com profile] love_imperfect: One-shot, PG. Kyuhyun steps back into the recording booth for the first time since his surgery.
I like Kyuhyun in recording studios, I like fics that write Kyuhyun like a real human being with fears and insecurities, and I like fics that have lovely descriptions of singing. This short fic does all three.

All These Words, All This Music by [livejournal.com profile] ari_enne: Two- or Three-shot, PG-13. Side Han Geng/Heechul. AU. ‘Oh – oh, I am so sorry, I really wasn’t watching where I was going,’ Zhou Mi started, taking in the windswept hair, bright red scarf wrapped tightly around his neck, and an almost-too-thin frame.
Epilogue is here since she doesn't link to it from the fic. I love how this author uses color and light in her writing; overall, her descriptions are very intense. I like this universe a lot, too. It has such a nice feel to it, somehow.

Roller Coaster by [livejournal.com profile] kayevelyn: One-shot, PG-13. Zhou Mi has a hard time putting definitions to emotions, and emotions to situations. But he tries.
This fic is so intense. It's another fic that deals with how people might react to homosexuality (I feel like I will rec any and all fics like this that I come across). Reading it is a struggle the whole way through, but in such a good way. You're in suspense, the whole time, wondering if it'll really work out.

And all the Lights That Lead us There are Blinding by [livejournal.com profile] taoyan: One-shot, NC-17. Zhou Mi is in a crisis of unrequited love. Kyuhyun plays Patapon.
Everything, absolutely everything this author writes is worth reading, but I can't get this fic in particular out of my head. It tells a whole story through sex. I've never seen a fic do that before. Zhou Mi's characterization here is different from any I've read before in the fandom, and (imo) the one that's probably closest to how he is irl. It's gorgeous and painful and fantastically written.

Decade and One by [livejournal.com profile] playmehome: One-shot, PG. Kyuhyun and Zhou Mi build a life together within the walls of a house with yellow shutters.
There are two things that make this fic stand out. First, it's not get-together fic, it's "everything that comes after" fic. She wastes no time telling you how the relationship came to be, and barely mentions anything outside of their relationship together because it's honestly not important for this fic, and I love that. Second, she instead chooses to give us a series of snapshots into their life together as decades pass. Maturing love, seeing how they grow together, domesticity and quiet emotion! There aren't enough QMi fics about that.

Icarus by [livejournal.com profile] canttakeabreath: One-shot, R. Zhou Mi does not burn, and Kyuhyun burns too brightly.
This fic grabs you from the very beginning and turns you every way but loose. This story takes certain aspects of Zhou Mi and Kyuhyun's personalities and cranks them up, seeing what happens, and the end result is fantastic. I was actually holding my breath while reading some parts. I totally bought the premise, the growing relationship, and the character development, and the almost obsessive detail really grounds this fic.
